The Education Department strongly recommends that candidates wishing to cross-endorse should contact the CT State Department of Education to ensure they have taken the proper content coursework. The School of Education and Professional Studies (SEPS) builds on a strong foundation in liberal arts and offers a variety of academic programs for students to acquire the skills and knowledge they need for successful professional careers. Each of the four Education programs: Early Childhood, Elementary, Physical Education, and Secondary Education provides a unique blend of guided instruction at diverse sites within their specific discipline and grade levels. The two programs received high grades due to explicit instruction on each of the five components of reading; support for instruction with high-quality textbooks that accurately detail established principles of scientifically based reading practices; and evidence that teacher candidates must demonstrate mastery through in-class assignments, tests and fieldwork. By comparison, 10 of the remaining 11 teacher prep programs analyzed by the review received a D or worse.
