Tags: A Court of Thorns and Roses, Jennifer Ikeda, Recorded Books, Sarah J. Maas. This was my first Maas book as well and it turned me away from trying her other series. I think I saw that you 2-starred Throne of Glass or that couldve been someone else I know who tried one of her books, too.

LOL. Im thinking her stories are for me at all after this book. Lol. I was just reading a discussion (which I agreed with) by AJ Sterkel @ Read All Thing about how difficult that is to do sometimes. I was also SO delighted to see the twist on the Hades/Persephone-like story (Rhysand/Feyre) that Maas weaved in there, as well as the introduction of a pretty impressive team fighting the crooks with each other. This book borders on sexual battery at the least. Your review pretty much confirmed this. I dont even want to try to read another book by her at this point.

Any good feelings I had about the book were effectively decimated by the ending of the book. However, I wanted to start with something different than the usual books I see everyone reading, which seems to be Throne of Glass. Great. As much as I enjoy YA fantasy (especially YA epic fantasy), that one was NOT the kind I like. I actually had an even longer rant planned, but I trimmed it down a lot. So be vigilant, parents. As I said in my review, Im not saying you shouldnt like the book or the author shouldnt be a favorite. Change). Being branded and robbed of her privacy is not okay. Am I saying that you have to stop reading your fav? Seriously though, its interesting how a book can affect everyone so differently. Favs can be problematic, too. After some things others have said in the same vein about how some of her books are great and some are just not, I thought Id just get a good laugh out of it for being ridiculous, but this yeah I am done with Maas.

I know I made a comment on here the other day. Its a promise that Feyre clings to ridiculously because promises mean something in this world, except were never actually shown anything that backs this claim up other than Feyre saying this. Doesnt this just sound excellent? When will women writers quit undermining NO means NO? A Book Blog for Speculative Fiction, Graphic Novels and more! This book exemplifies all the issues that I have with romantic relationships in young adult fantasy books and why I tend to keep away from the genre. I dont get it being put in the 0-10 age range books. The second book in this series (along with many other YA series I wouldnt allow my 7-year-old to read) are included in the kids section. Thanks for the sweet post! This book is problematic. And these are just a couple of examples. This can only work if shes fae, amirite? Keeping her drugged out of her mind for days is not okay. Feyre developed a lot extraordinary self-awareness, sincerity, as well as bravery. I have a love-hate relationship with Maas. Oh, wow! , I think that format is great. I think Im pretty much done with anything by Maas. Other than that, this book is the absolute worst when it couldve been the absolute best thing I read this year. Shes the daughter of a family that has squandered its fortune. As well as he offered her nothing but selections, which in its own method is whatever. The only truly good thing about this book, other than her way with words, was the narration, which I loved. I have now added a note to watch your reviews as well. While I really could have really done without the faux-mance and all the men in this book, the beginning was great and the trials that Feyre had to go through were really exciting. Puzzling but true. I did try reading Throne of Glass recently, btw and I gave up 130 pages in. Oh, did mean to mention that the one good thing I did get from this book is a new talented narrator to check out. Theres no need to feel guilty. Please enter your username or email address to reset your password. So I dont think Sarah J. Maass stories are for me. The Asshole Love Interest is one that I often struggle with in YA fantasy where I dont struggle as much in other genres, even other YA books, because in this medium theyre often given excuses to act in the worst way possible and not actually atone for their actions. This is sexual abuse/misconduct no matter how you try to pretty it up as sexy. Theres a reason we continue to have open dialogue about problematic topics in literature such as this that seems to praise the kind of gross behavior that devalues its characters and readers.

The ending leads me to believe that there will certainly be a quite OUTSTANDING verdict to the trilogy. Ive been shilling one of GAs other productions in other subs for so long. Anyhow, I seem to be in the small minority who absolutely hates this book anyway. If you hated ACOTAR, dont touch its sequel, ACOMAF because its even worse. (LogOut/ It makes up for the shortcomings of the first. I wasnt falling for that. For about 50% of the book, I was actually mostly okay. And nevertheless the neglect from Tamlin, she realized her worth. It somehow manages to get worse? Im too agitated with this book to be bothered with summing this book up in my own words, so have a Goodreads description: As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning shes been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. Ive never wanted to slap a character more so than when Feyre started making googly eyes at him even after she knew what he had done. I was pleasantly surprised with Rhys. This testimonial is primarily for the mums around. Audio Book A Court of Mist and Fury Audiobook. As well as she just got to see her well worth when she was far from the Springtime Court, thanks to Rhysand. He is not a mind reader, and no is not a negotiable phrase. Not 100 percent what I expected but I kind of love it. Compound all this with the fact that Maas pulled a total Twilight by having Feyre become a fae. Lynn . Im getting angry all over again just thinking about it again. Oh god that is NOT Rhys voice Jesus Christ that sounded like a 15yo high school chad . I gave ACOTAR 2 stars and I really disliked it but ACOMAF is another level of stupid. If it assists, I feel like the writer was really deliberate in consisting of those scenes, and also if anything, I believe points are defined in such a way that is healthier than whats in a great deal of teen fiction nowadays (ie: devastating partnerships). do you have it? Its good to see I wasnt the only one completely disgusted with Rhys. Rather specific for senior high school age, it actually amazed me and also took me unsuspecting. I was about halfway into this book when I realized something. Dont get me wrong, I will probably feast on the following book, as I did the initial 2, yet you wont locate me recommending it to young adults. He offered her that chance to come to be independent again. But Ill be super reluctant to start any new series she writes. Im going to stay far away from this one. Now all money I own will be going towards GA lol. She hugs the guy and thanks him or something. (LogOut/ Shes hardly the only writer who has written something problematic. Side Note to Parents: This book is published by a childrens line. LOL. It makes me almost want to go back and read the last third! All that being said I havent rushed out yet to pick up a copy of No.2. Im in the same boat, though. This contains spoilers, so turn back now if you plan to read this book or just dont want to see me ranting. And since I capitalized not twice in this comment, I guess I really mean it. Seclusion leads to self-reflection and thats why she was still in misery and tortuous pain from her mind while living safely in the Spring Court. As I read your description of the book I was beside myself with anger and it was only a summary: I can only imagine how angry and teeth-baring frustrated you must have felt actually *reading* it. I sort of liked Feyre at the beginning, but by the end, it felt so stupid and unrealistic for her to be as accepting of all this crap as she was. Change), You are commenting using your Twitter account. Feyre begins this book with agency. To be honest, this book wasnt on my radar because the summary gave me the impression that its NOT something Id enjoy. I wont even with this series. Category: 1 star, Audiobooks, Fae, Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult I thought I could be forgiving, though. There's a snippet of Rhys's voice in this TikTok. In fact, the main female character and readers are often asked to sympathize with these characters and their behavior, and this book took that to a very disturbing extreme. He seemed to have some issues with the word no.Thinking to herself that she does want Tamlin does not negate the verbal no she gives him during a scene after the rave party. Its not until the introduction of another possible male love interest, Rhysand, that things go from a bit problematic at times to outright gross. Jennifer Ikedas reading is probably a huge reason why I didnt just give this up around the 75% mark. In summary, ACOMAF is mentally charged, touching, and also significant, yet it is likewise amusing and extremely amusing. I have to say that I did read this in something like 3 days, it has a good flow (or maybe my mood was right) but I cringed a lot when I read it. GA made a good decision in picking up ACOTAR. Lynn , Honestly, other than dickbag Rhys, I quite enjoyed myself with this book. countess feysand inkxlenses dominique rwby tho wuv

Although I did think it was horrible, I would like to compliment you for being brave enough to express a contrary opinion. I hate that, too, when authors switch roles so significantly to make us warm up to another character (or hate a character who was okay). Apparently a lot of people dislike GA. Who knew that reading a book while listening to sound effects and multiple voice actors would be such a turn off for some people? I would love to hear Rhysand's voice. Ive listened to plenty of plain audiobooks because I enjoy them while I work, and have loved podcasts that are in a similar graphic audio style, like The Left Right Game, The White Vault, Blackout, etc. Not giving up on Maas at all, though like you its not like Ive been tripping over myself to pick up A Court and Mist and Fury either . I cant fault anyone for wanting to finish series. So why am I still reading her books? YES, I thought I was alone in my intense dislike for this book. I am ashamed to admit that I voted for as well. Aside from the date rape drug, there are hundreds of ways that Maas couldve made some of these things actually sexy with a hint of conflict without writing them the way she did. Id hate for a parent to accidentally pick it up and give it to a 10-year-old. Thats how I feel when a book/show/etc doesnt resort to rape as a plot device. Your fav is problematic. Yeah, I see where youre coming from. Sarah J. Maas A Court of Mist and Fury Audio Book Online. Also, I loved Beauty and the Beast as a kid, and I thought I was getting this. The following is an example of problems Ive had on many sites. Its unforgivable what he did in this book, I cant believe theyre romanticizing that shit. Im also reading her Throne of Glass series which is entertaining, though it has its ups and downs. The book coming from her point of view where she thinks she may enjoy some things while she absolutely despises others does not make any of this okay. Then I LOVED Heir of Fire, I really enjoyed it and so Queen of Shadows and ACOTAR came as MASSIVE disappointments. Even just a hit of it is inexcusable. This is ABSOLUTELY not for children, though. Other than that, I didnt hate this book as utterly as you did, so Ill probably check out the sequel if I have time. I just received Book 2 of this series in the mail and I needed a sort of reminder of what happened in Book 1 and you summed it up really well. I cant agree more with your assessment of women writers and the word no. Were already living in a culture that thinks that what women say shouldnt be taken at face value, that we dont know what we want or what we mean or what we feel. Tamlin is not excluded from gross behavior even though he was far less likely to engage in it. Thanks for the term rant-view, Wendy. Being told that all the gross things she had to endure was a way of saving her and she should be grateful is not okay. I cant even. Plus I have to know what everyones talking about. Welcome to The BiblioSanctum! Just acknowledge it when they are. To the stars who listen and the dreams that are answered. Press J to jump to the feed. While I had some issues with this book in the beginning, I thought it was well-written, and I liked that it was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and the Ballad of Tam Lin (even the main male character is named Tamlin, get it?). Tamlin was okay. In general, I dont have a problem with the Asshole Love Interest (I mean, I married my Asshole Love Interest, and weve been together 16 years), but theres a fine line between being a sexy Asshole Love Interest and being a gross Asshole Love Interest. And if thats not the healthiest point Ive ever reviewed in YA, then nothing is.I pretty much second what every other first-class customer has actually claimed. Up to the moment I read this book, the one of the worst love interests Id encountered in this genre was Kerrick from Maria V. Snyders Touch of Power, and you know what? LOL. Feyre being slipped the equivalent of a date rape drug by Rhys and paraded around in see-through clothing (with a painted body nonetheless, so he can know when someone touches her) while being made to entertain Rhys in front of Tamlin is not okay. https://youtu.be/9a5CQ9mrcU0 Whats not to like? Oh, urgh. We're always reading and yet, there never seem to be enough books! Dont pretend its not happening or acknowledge its happening, but then turn into an apologist for the problems. LOL. Rhysand recognized she can just repair herself. I had such a strong negative reaction to this one that I didnt see the second one making up for that. I actually loved all the voices, although Tamlin was a tad bit overdone in spots. (And perhaps guilty is the wrong word anyway because it makes me sound as though Ive done something wrong I think on reflection puzzled is a better term. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Books like this just further make the word no appear to be a dubious statement, something that can be ignored, rather than a firm statement. Or typed it at least, guess it didnt take. Im not sure its super popular yet, but I expect it could be in the near future, especially as they release the other books. This book could easily go into the top worst books Ive ever read. I was foaming at the mouth by the end of this. I feel like Im going to have to start rating higher for healthy relationships as well. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in: You are commenting using your WordPress.com account. Think on that. Normally, this wouldnt have been on my radar either, but my book club was reading it and Id bought it on impulse for when I would give Maas a chance. Im a sucker for hype, apparently, and Im on a mission to finish more series. Also its 640 pages and the last 150 pages or so are just badly written sex scenes, they were just cringeworthy really. Loved Rhys even though it wasnt what I had imagined. I wont say that her agency is taken away from her completely during the course of the story, but it is crippled significantly by the direction Maas chooses to take with the love interests. This goes to show how little book dealers know about the stuff theyre peddling. The reread might be very interesting. I complained for days to anyone who would listen about this book, mainly Wendy. Thanks. I still gave that book 3 stars. And Tamlin and Rhys switch role, the first one becomes the asshole and the second, the knight in shining armor. Im definitely excited to try out some others. I checked my RSS feed (old fashioned, I know), and I had already noted you as having good New Release posts. It took her a bit to see her worth. Im not going to chew you out for your high ratings of this book because I have favs, too, that are problematic. I passed on the second one, because no matter how great Rhys is in it (according to some). Learn how your comment data is processed. Notice that the age range for this kids section is 0-10. If this is what I can expect in her other books, its better for me to not even put myself through the pain. I complained about this book so much to Wendy that she said it was going to be a rant-view. Ill definitely look forward to hearing what you think if you do read the sequel. However, I think this one time that Ill content myself to just reading what everyone else thinks of her books. I assume that GAs ACOTAR will definitely get pushed on Tik Tok,which is where a lot of ACOTAR fans seem to be. After hearing about Sarah Maas books from many people including friends and other bloggers, I figured Id stop resisting and give one of her novels a try. Publisher:Bloomsbury Childrens (May 5, 2015), Information: Website | Twitter | Goodreads. Pingback: Tiaras 2nd Quarter Update | The BiblioSanctum. So, thank you. Anyway, LOVE the term RANT-view! She does have plenty of sensual moments between Feyre/Tamlin and even a few between Feyre/Rhys, but the overall feel of this is just disgusting. My pockets are gonna be hurting for sure. She made friends and started living a healthy way of life.

Keep in mind to the parents: This book can obtain pretty steamy/descriptive in regards to enchanting scenes. So I instantly jumped at ACOTAR being one like that. I thought it was super fascinating how Rhys sounded sooooo different from Tamlin and Lucien (who, in my opinion, sounded almost identical)! *lol*. Im a completionist, so I totally understand it. I cant believe anyone would dislike a audiobook with sound effects and a cast. Her night terrors never vanished because she had all this moment to bear in mind her challenge. No. Others have said she uses similar angles in her other books, so Im just not going to put myself through this with her. I hold my hands up I quite enjoyed this! Lynn . I made a terrible mistake. I will not be reading more of this or Maas either. I still keep an RSS feed, too. That is not old-fashioned at all. I was pained to give this even 1 star. I love them so much and I feel like I focus on them much easier as well. Its now my go to to listen to at night while I fall asleep. Tamlin is not the Asshole Love Interest of this book, even though he has his moments, and I was actually grateful for a relationship that seemed fairly healthy with a few hiccups because theres not enough of those in books. Ugh, Rhys was the absolute worst part of the book. The book is ranked for quality 10 and also up, but let me tell ya- this is most likely the most adult-young-adult novel Ive ever read. Sorry for the mini-rant, but this is a hot button topic for me. Tam and Lucien were nothing like now they sounded in my head, but Rhys is just . (LogOut/ are horrible and so, so problematic if you think that this is marketed as YA. LOL. Change), You are commenting using your Facebook account. Eh. Neither does any real remorse ever factor in. Feyre was nine when she made this promise. (Im simply alerting you if you are really careful regarding the kinds of books/scenes you desire your children to check out given their age array.) A couple of fans tried to tell me, You should give the second book a chance. Well, I think this post makes some excellent points to be honest and Im almost puzzled by why I didnt pick up on more of this when I was reading it or feel more annoyed but there it is. And now I feel kind of guilty! Grrr! Guy, this publication stunned the hell out of me numerous times.I want to start off with how healthy and balanced Sarah J. Maas is creating Feyre. Im at the point where I feel like giving a full extra star to each book I read that features a healthy relationship, they seem so rare. I just finished it yesterday! LOL. There were some thing that had me raising my eyebrow, but not anything that would just make me rage until about 50% in and then by the end I was almost blind with fury.

I finished it in about 3-4 days listening to it at a casual pace. I can't wait for the next part either, I already pre-ordered it AND the next book . I thought her first two books of the Throne of Glass series were over-hyped but I liked them enough to keep going. Thanks for a great review! huh. The BiblioSanctum is a home for our absolute love of reading. It feels like GA has a small consumer base. I remember liking this book quite a bit, and now feel conflicted. I pledged to be kinder to Young Adult (New Adult, whatever you want to call this trash) Fantasy books this year after all. The characters made nonsensical choices, their development was shit and yeah, the relationships between men and women (or males and females, as she calls them, if I remember correctly?) However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out your fav is being reprehensible instead of glorifying it or trying to ignore it happened. None. Rhys sustains her, however she does not grow through him (which is SO vital). Maas also does an exceptional job in broadening the universe of this book. And then Rhysand comes into the picture.

Feyres personality growth is extraordinary. Im not surprised. . Glad you all are enjoying the new ACOTAR production. I get incensed about all sorts of issues and yet this book didnt seem to raise that anger in me at all and I guess I find that intriguing. To top it all off, Feyre isnt allowed many avenues to express any genuine dissatisfaction with her treatment other than some throwaway statements here and that that she eventually bites back because BIG SCARY FAE PEOPLE, but yet shell ask a million mindless questions and not care if she pisses off the BIG SCARY FAE PEOPLE. I actually enjoyed it all much more than I expected. I had reviewed all Sarah Maas publications to this point and also was surprised to read the content in this one, which included long, in-depth sex scenes and specific language. This life has made Feyre hard and cynical, and those were things I actually liked about her character. There is somewhat graphic sex in this book. Ill still concede that Maas has a way with words. She has an older sister, a younger sister, and a father, but her mother made a nine-year-old promise to take care of the family. Before her mother dies, a mother who couldnt be bothered with her children, she makes Feyre promise to look after the remaining members of her family. Rhys, well I was kind of hoping that even though he was being a massive dickhead it was an act that he was putting on but I cant remember now whether that train of thought ever followed through. You know what a normal person would say to their tormentor if they told them they drugged them and treated them like a toy for their own good? Its simply a couple of steamy words far from coming from the adult romance novel area. can you send it to me?

It does NOT excuse his behavior in this one. I had not been a massive follower of her in ACOTAR, however she truly reminds me of Aelin in Successor of Fire right here with just how she discovers to regard herself as well as form her very own future. She was repairing herself due to the fact that she saw greater than just the suffocating wall surfaces of Tamlins residence. This was my first and last book by this author. Healthy connections are rare to locate in YA. Theres plenty of stories featuring similar things where consent works into the story without breaking whatever fantasy element shes going for here. Lucien was pretty close for me. None of this is okay, and its not sexy. Anyway, to keep to this promise, Feyre learns to hunt and take care of her ungrateful familywhose reasoning for being shit is they knew Feyre would take care of them. Ive done the same thing until I just couldnt for some books. Or maybe were both old-fashioned. I must admit though there is no way this is YA. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it or doom Tamlinand his worldforever. IMHO even good writing cannot balance this out Thank you for writing this (so I didnt have to). In fact, this book started out with that, but then it went downhill from there, especially around the last third of the book. They chose the perfect Rhys. makes those narrative choices even worse. Feyre was left in isolation for three months after the occasions in ACOTAR. I just wished more people would acknowledge that its okay to be a fan of someone or something, but still hold it accountable. It makes me hope that GA will pick up some of the other stories that I like. LOL. Ill let you know what I think, lol. I read all the books out in The Throne of Glass series, I wasnt the biggest fan of the first book but the second one was at least an improvement and I hoped that it would be the case with this series too but, oh well And Maas clearly loves switching ships, I think that she gets bored way too easily with her male characters; in almost all of the ToG books, Celeana, the main protagonist, has a new love interest Its not even a love triangle anymore, its more of a love-diamond . I gave a book that featured an Asshole Love Interest who starved the main female character, tied the main female character to a tree in the cold, and tried to walk the main female character to exhaustion 3 stars. She came to be rather badass by the end and also shes now among my preferred characters? Dont get me wrong youre not making me feel guilty Im really good at doing that all by myself! Our Goodreads lists are an eclectic assortment of genres -- and we love to share our thoughts. This goes even beyond the usual norm of YA themes that make me roll my eyes and run in the opposite direction as fast as I can: this is a terrible example of a horrid mind-set, and the fact that its addressed to a younger audience (seriously????) This was a fairly quick listen for me. Thats great because more people will hear about GA. Plus, GAs version may tide us over until the TV adaptation comes out. This soured me completely. She wasnt good enough as a human, so lets not allow her to be that anymore. document.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() ); This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Ugh, I just want to forget it. Steff (Mogsy), Tiara and Wendy are proud moms, geeks, gamers and bibliophiles. I picked this book up during an Audible sale and sort of let it bake on my TBR pile, but queued it up when my romance book club chose this as its read. Get bent, you stupid son-of-a-bitch. You know what Feyre says?
